How was 2018 for you? Top 3 best memories from the year.
2018 was a very busy year for me, but it was loads of fun. My biggest highlights were:
- Flying in a helicopter over the Canadian Rockies. We touched down next to a river in the middle of the mountains, hiked to a waterfall, and then popped open a bottle of champagne to celebrate. It was magical!
- Taking the train all the way from Singapore to Hanoi in Vietnam. It took ten trains, a few buses, and a couple of boats to travel all that distance. Such an amazing way to see that part of the world.
- Climbing Mount Fuji in Japan. It was a massive struggle for me, but I was so determined and just kept on walking! Reaching the top was a truly magical moment.
Do you have a bucket list? If so, what are the top destinations on it?
I think of it more as a “wish-list” than a bucket list! Right now, the top destinations that I’m dying to visit are Australia, New Zealand, Ecuador, and China.
We noticed that you absolutely love food, how do you manage to stay fit while traveling.
I don’t really!! It’s a real struggle trying to balance my love of food and travel with staying fit, and usually the staying fit side of things loses. While I’m at home I make sure to exercise regularly; this year I’ve been using the Couch to 5K app to build up my fitness up. When I’m away I just try to walk as much as possible; walking is the best way to explore a new city. And if any opportunity for fun exercise comes up, like swimming or kayaking, then I’ll take it!
What is that one place you would love to visit again; especially for the cuisine.
Japan or Vietnam. I am obsessed with the food from both of those countries; I’ve been to both of them twice and would go again in a heartbeat! When I revisited Vietnam recently, most of my travels were based around various foods I love.
How do you deal with flight delays and jet-lags?
Not very well!! I think the trick is to just take things easy, especially with jetlag. I try not to do too much straight away, and just let my body rest. But I can be a real baby about jetlag and being overtired! It’s all part of the job, though – and with you have to take the bad in order to get good.
