Bino Chua: Japan is one of the Favorite Destinations to Travel

“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain.” – Jack Kerouac

DutyFreeList in conversation with travel wanderer and blogger, Bino Chua.

What are the 3 most memorable experiences you enjoyed in the year 2018?

In a poo of memories from 2018, there are few really close to my heart:

  • Visiting a new continent – Africa.
  • Flying first class on Qantas
  • Revisiting some of my favorite destinations – Penang, Phnom Penh and Melbourne

What is that one destination that you would want to go again, especially for the food varieties it offers?

I love Khmer food and have gone to Cambodia numerous times primarily because of that. I think Khmer food is often overlooked in favor of its neighbors but many local chefs are gained prominence recently. Prices are also quite affordable. One can dine in a fine restaurant for a fraction of the price elsewhere.

Japan is another favorite. Even a casual stroll around the city is enough to tempt me. There are just so many exquisite snacks in display everywhere.

Do you have a bucket list? If so, what are the top 2 things on it?

Certainly. My bucket list is more of an enumeration of places I’d like to visit. Once I manage to cross something off, another destination takes it place. Currently, Serbia and Slovenia are the top 2 countries in my bucket list.

What has been your favourite past time to-do inside a big beautiful suite?

I am a bit of a workaholic and actually spend a lot of time writing whenever I’m in a hotel room. The peace and quiet allows me to concentrate better. My favorite pastime would be to relax and just do nothing. It’s something I don’t often get to do during these hotel stays, ironically.

Tell us something unexpected that has happened to you on your travels.

They say that unless you are a premium loyalty club member of booked a fully flexible ticket, it is highly unlikely you’ll get upgraded in a flight. Well, I recently flew to Singapore and got upgraded to business class at the check-in counter even though I’m none of the above. That was definitely something unexpected!
