On the occasion of Women’s Day, DutyFreeList interviewed Jutta Rechies.
Your current role and a short brief.
I am a travel retail manager with Westa GMBH, owner of the brand Oliver Weber Collection
Working for 20 years with this company. We are producing high quality fashion Jewellery and accessories with Swarovski crystals.
What sparks passion in you about travel retail, travel and tourism?
Travel retail business is never boring and extremely exiting due to all the different locations, requirements and tastes.
Creating collections for individual destination markets inspires me and gives an immediate feedback in sales figures.
What is your management style? How do your employees perceive you?
I would call my management style responsible. Everyone in whatever position, should be aware that his actions do have an effect on the business and other people. Anyhow it is perfectly alright and I also expect people to take decisions, even if they might be wrong.
My employees do perceive me as a very fast moving person which sometimes is hard to follow, but they also know that we are a team and that everyone is supportive.
Who is your women role model?
Definitely Iris Apfel! To do what you like and love independently of age or of what others are saying is simply great!
Advice for young women in your and other industries?
Network more! Not only with men, but especially with other women as these networks are missing, but they can be more than useful.
Who would you thank as a mentor in your career?
Joe Gatt, which is a very good friend of mine and always there when a good advice is needed.

What was the last gift you bought at duty free and gave someone?
A plushie for one of my kids.
Innovations that you are looking forward to in technology/ social media (foldable phones, VR, AI, BITCOIN ?)
Trackable (production process) products – people should know what they are buying and from where it comes and how it was produced.
